The final race of the year is upon us. Almost a shame really, this has been such a fantastic season. One might say it has been long but really, what is the alternative? I say lets keep going. They should extend the season right up to Christmas, take a week off through New Years then bang, testing at Daytona! What is wrong with that? But since they dont let us make the rules (yet) we will have to live with the season coming to an end this Sunday night. Might as well throw a party. Oh yea, we do. Every year the JNFL celebrates the seasons finish by getting together at the Indian Valley Inn to watch the race and see the look on the faces of the poor bastards that might win the championship. Who can forget Steve W. and his Kurt Busch pick wrecking short of 20 laps into the race. Billy's Earnhardt pick at Atlanta on a Monday. Karen's Jeff Burton pick that went 1 lap down and just couldn't get the lap back to save her season. Eddie Wandell picked Kurt Busch in 2004 at Homestead. Kurt's wheel fell off and he narrowly missed crashing on pit road. For certain he was done! Nope, Kurt methodically moved back up through the field and finished just high enough to win himself the Chase for the Championship and, in turn, giving our hero Eddie enough points to stay ahead of one Mr. Judd (foiled again!). This year we have a very good chance of witnessing history. The current leader atop the JNFL is none other than last years Champion New York Mike. Nobody has ever won the JNFL in back to back seasons and only one person has been able to win the title twice. Mike has played the season brilliantly to this point. This is a stark contrast to the path he followed to win the title in 2006. If you remember Mike was outside the Chase looking in headed into the 26th race at Richmond. He picked the winner and made up just enough to make the Chase by 5 points. The rest was easy - lol. One thing is the same, he entered Homestead last year with the lead. One thing is different. He will be at the Indian Valley Inn this year. He is also out of picks. I want to see this. You should come too. Besides, you still don't have your tickets to the JNFL Banquet, let's go already. Come on down to the Indian Valley Inn and join the party - after all, you are the host.
Can't believe I have to ask people to show up. Should be picking out sticks to keep the people back with. |
