I need to let everyone know that the current JNFL scoring system is being worked on - feverishly. Greg Shaeffer and I have been trying for a while now to figure out why we have a few little problems calculating data correctly. While I don't want to bore you with techno-babble, it is time for us to start the playoffs here with the Loudon race today so having the score correct now more than ever is critical in my eyes. The problems we have been fighting are illegal picks, double picks and Carl Edwards illegal win. The illegal picks have come when people call in their picks. People tell me who they want and I enter the pick into the database directly through the back-end. When computer user's login to 'Your Page' and try to pick a driver for a 4th time the system wont allow you. Unfortunately it is allowing me. We know this so we have developed a sweep that finds them. Okay. Also this year, for reasons we still can't figure out, the system arbitraily awards race points to a JNFL memeber twice for one race. It can be anyone, anywhere in either league. Some weeks it happens to nobody, some weeks a handful of players need to be adjusted. This problem has been a devilish little prick to fix and keep catching. Alas the new system coming will get rid of this. Lastly, that darned Carl Edwards went and won the Las Vegas race but was later penalized by Nascar for having the cover off of his oil-reserve. In doing so they docked him 100 points and declared that his 'win' would not be worth ten bonus points should Carl qualify for the post-season. So I finally detirmined that the only way to track that in our system was change Carl's finish to a second place. That is currently the only way to stop the system from counting it as a win. Unfortunately, upon going back to week 3 and making the change, I then had to goto week's 4 through 26 and re-update them too. Special thanks to Matt Kaelin for catching that. Last night our hero Greg worked hard to get the new system up and running. First he built it, then he tested it and then he imported our entire season into it and compared results. Whammo! He immediatley caought all the illegal picks the we previously found and no new ones. It appears as though we found all the double picks and now when I punch in data through the backend, your attempts to pick a driver for a 4th time will be caught immediately. That leaves us with one final step: migrating the new system from the dummy site into the real website. We really wanted to have it in before Loudon - last night actually. Alas, time was not on our side. So please everyone be patient with us as we try to show you the new 'Chase' standings and 'Lucky Dog' standings. Hopefully (fingers crossed) they will be available for your viewing pleasure. Thanks again for you understanding and patience concerning this matter.
