Rogue Reporter Andy’s “Up on the Bar Stool”

Interview With JNFL Team Member Danny “The Man” Mengel - 1st Place with 2 Wins

dan_mengal_1finger_small.jpgHello everyone, your ole pal Rogue here. I had the distinct pleasure of sitting down with Mr. Mengel last week before the California race and had a brief but informative one on one conversation with the man they call Danny.

We started the conversation like any other would, but I could tell by the deep tone in Danny’s voice that something was bothering him. We chatted about NASCAR in general and the COT but he led right into the JNFL and picking strategy.

It has long been said that to be successful in the JNFL you must have a plan or some kind of strategy. Dan informed me that last year he had several good picks left after the season was over. A Jeff Gordon and two Jimmy Johnson’s is what he said. Then he said that is probably why he finished so close to the toilet.

“No more of that strategy for me”, Dan said. “ I am doing well so far this year and I have a totally different outlook on my picking method this year compared to last.”

While Dan is feeling good about the start of his season in 08, any veteran JNFL team owner knows that consistency is the key with several good picks left at the end of the season for the final push toward the grand prize of JNFL Champion. Do you feel it? Danny Mengel sure does. The start of this year is a good one for Danny, with two picks in the record books he has two wins logged already to start his run for the chase.

Before parting ways from the bar stools we shared our thoughts on who to pick for the California race and ended with a hardy handshake. I looked at it as two JNFL veterans giving each other respect and courtesy in sharing whom we were going to pick for the race so as to stay out of each other’s way.

Respect right? Wrong. A big setup play by Mr. Mengel as I later found out. After looking at the pick sheet after the start of the race he had purposely told me the wrong pick to force his way to the front. Basically he hit me in the rear and knocked me out of the way four laps into a 400 mile race. Well all I have to say Mr. Mengel is I am coming for you. I maybe a lap down but I will come back and get the lucky dawg. When this happens you can bet your ass I will return the hit.

Good Luck to ALL other JNFL team owners except you Mr. Mengel! The reason for the MR. in front of your name is out of respect. My father always told me to respect my elders no matter what. Age before beauty Dan. I will see you at the stripe buddy.

Good Luck everyone and remember no one is a friend when it comes to racing for a championship. You can bet on that!

This article was originally written last year before the Texas race in April. The exact conversation happened last week so I thought it would be fitting to change the date and name of the race and use the same awesome article I wrote before. LOL...Pretty Funny and thanks to Mengel for being a good sport! Good Luck to Danny who starts the season off with two races and two wins!  Actually I hope anyone wins but NY Mike. See you at the front!
